The yacht marina plan would confiscate priceless vistas, 228 parking spaces (one of the two free lots), the 3 jetties and the 4 acre tree grove lawn and its adjacent public boat launch lot, and would include boat storage, restaurant etc. The plan also includes expansion of Suntex’s northside marina.

This massive yacht marina plan for the entire Southside would ruin LSP's "Central Park" true purpose of people's enjoyment of the peaceful openness of our urban waterfront haven for picnics, jogging, walking, bicycling, fishing, relaxing and taking in the expansive open harbor views looking southward toward the Verrazano Bridge. It would:

·        Desecrate America’s connection to the Overlook Lawn with its Flag Plaza and picnic area and LSP’s symbolism as Lady
Liberty’s neighbor

·        Confiscate 228 parking spaces in one of the free lots on summer weekends, the two free lots are already packed.

·        Obstruct the priceless panoramic open, expansive harbor views

·        Obstruct people’s access to the water’s edge for fishing, exploring the jetties – blocking waterfront access with locked gates to boat docks.

·        Negatively impact the wildlife along the tranquil coastline and the nearby Caven Point Natural wildlife habitat

Friends' Rebuttal to Sunterx defense of their Southside Marina Plans

Friends 1/19 statement on court decision:
This court ruling at this time is irrelevent and anticlimactic because the Jan. 2 temporary restraining order prevented Gov. Christie's administration from signing an 11th hour lease with Suntex which would have destroyed the southside of our treasured Park.
These lease terms are not binding and the Friends have total confidence that Gov. Murphy will officially reject the marina due to his stated opposition and advocacy for the preservation of LSP for current and future generations.
Gov. Murphy cares about the 40 years of overwhelming majority opposition to such plans and truly understands the meaning of LSP to the urban people and to visitors from all around our nation and world.
We do urge Gov. Murphy to communicate soon to Suntex so that the public doesn't have to waste its time at Suntex's required "public information meeting' within 30 days, which would be a useless serving of baloney to angry park supporters.
